He was the first chair and founded he IGU Commission for Environment Evolution. At the time of his death he was the head of the Laboratory of Evolutionary Geography, within the Institute of Geography of the Academy of Sciences. He was renowned for his work in Late Cenozoic paleoclimatology and paleoecology of Early Man, as well as his expertise in the analysis of the environment and climate evolution.ver menos
