Dr. Flanders received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1924 and his Master’s degree in 1926, both from Emory University. He received a doctorate from Duke University in 1929 and became a history instructor at New York University. He was made Assistant Professor in 1940, and Associate Professor in 1944, retiring in 1962. He died in Chattanooga on July 9, 1963 aged 60.
