I had already used some herbs with great success but still didn't think there was much beyond orthodox medicine when it came to illness and healing. Then I attended a weekend seminar based on the book, "The Medical Mafia" written by a French Canadian doctor. It was an expose of who really controls medicine in the West, and what I learned shocked me and I never looked at regular medicine or allopathic doctors the same again. I began to ponder what previous generations used for illness before "modern medicine" came along. I also began taking herbal courses to expand my knowledge and use herbs for myself and my pets. When I started to hear about how different government agencies were actively suppressing very effective herbs and making them illegal, I couldn't understand why. Why would something natural, that worked and was relatively safe be made illegal, and the pharmaceuticals, with potentially horrible and sometimes lethal side effects, be mostly left alone? I learned that treating illness is a business and a very profitable one at that. Herbs and anything natural cannot be patented and are therefore competition and a threat to the very powerful pharmaceutical industry, which can patent their synthetic drugs and then charge exorbitant prices for them. I also realized that not many people were aware of this.I love books, especially old, out-of-print, unique books. Over the years I went to many antique stores, second-hand book stores, and garage sales to collect them and I found a few very old & crumbling herbal remedy books. I put them away safely, afraid they would completely fall apart if I opened them too much and then forgot about them. I rediscovered them years later when going through some boxes I had packed away. Then I started to go through them and realized what a goldmine of information they contained and that there was much-hidden knowledge in these old herbal books. As I read them, I learned the battle between natural medicine and allopathic medicine is not new and was very prevalent in the 18th and 19th centuries. There seemed to be this constant battle between these two schools of thought on what causes disease and how to go about treating illness. As I went through the books I was shocked at how many amazing herbal remedies and kitchen cures were in them. Despite some ingredients being very dated and not in use today because we know better, there was still lots of great information that's relevant today. I didn't want these amazing old herbal remedies to be lost; left in old crumbling books where no one can find them and forgotten forever. So I scanned the books to read them without them falling apart, and went through them. I took out the best old herbal recipes and kitchen cures; as well as some of the strange ones and I combined that with relevant information from today and put them together into a book series. This is the first book of that series filled with these long-lost herbal secrets, Native herbal medicine, and kitchen cures. They are taken from a time era when people didn't run to the doctor regularly like today but helped each other out by sharing their remedies that had been passed down for generations; therefore it includes many old family herbal treasures as well as personal healing testimonials from the people of the time. Vintage Herbal & Home Remedies Collection is a book series on ancient medicine, herbal remedies, and forgotten kitchen cures.I hope you enjoy book 1, Long Lost Herbal Remedies & Kitchen Cures. Please check back later for the second book in the series Long Lost Cold & Flu Remedies, coming soon.Thank you!C. A. Buchananver menos
