Beatriz Maestro Mateos was born in Cáceres in 1990. With a degree in History from the University of Extremadura in 2013, she also holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Teacher Training for Secondary Education. In 2015, she expanded her expertise within the field of anthropology, earning a Master’s degree in Social and Cultural Anthropology (specializing in religion), at the same university. In 2016 she was named Official Chronicler of San Martín de Trevejo in recognition of her studies about this town.
She is the author of several publications on historical research, two of which have received awards. “Cofradías mañegas: un recorrido histórico sobre las antiguas fraternidades en San Martín de Trevejo”, [Mañegas fraternities: A historical tour of the old brotherhoods in San Martín de Trevejo] won the Xavier de Salas award for young researchers in 2016. A year later, this author was awarded a prize by the Concha Foundation for her paper “Un crucifijo, dos candeleros y dos majaderos. La Inquisición en Peraleda de la Mata” [A crucifix, two candlesticks and two fools. The Inquisition in Peraleda de la Mata]
In 2018 she published her first book, “El Fuego de la Hereje” [The Heretic’s Fire] via which she entered the field of historical novels. A year later, in February 2019, without leaving aside her research, she published her most important work to date: “Descubriendo a la Inquisición” [Discovering the Inquisition]. At the end of the same year, her second novel, "Las Cenizas del Inquisidor" [The Inquisitor's Ashes] was released, which together with the first volume mentioned above, forms a trilogy of international success.
