Baumbach’s hometown for his first nineteen years. His collegiate career began at Fullerton (CA) Junior College, and his baccalaureate education was completed at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Subsequently, he was awarded MA and PhD degrees from the University of Texas at Austin. He began teaching in 1950 at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin. Although unrelated to his preparation in sociology and social psychology, he was instrumental in introducing computer science into the TLU curriculum in January of 1969. He retired as professor emeritus of sociology in 1990 after forty years of academic and administrative endeavors.
In 1992, the mayor of Seguin asked him to devise and implement a plan for a senior-citizen center. Within five years, the Silver Center was established with a membership drawn from across Guadalupe County. Its services were augmented by the Silver Chest (a resale store and gift shop) and the Silver Urn (a coffee-and-sandwich shop).
He and Dorothy, his wife of over sixty-eight years, moved to Sun City in Georgetown in 2002. Bernie and Dot, as the two of them are commonly known, are the parents of two adult sons, their families, and three married grandchildren and one grandson who soon will be in college.
This final book of his trilogy His Father’s Son (books 1–3) is the sixth book he has written during the past four and a half years. It is his intention—although at this date he is ninety-one and a half years of age—to initiate a blog that addresses social and religious topics. He also plans to return to the posting of various religious essays on his website, www.bernardbaumbach.com.ver menos
