He graduated from Bowdoin College in 1987, earned an honorable discharge from the US Navy in 1994, and is currently striving for a master’s degree from the University of Southern California. In November 2009 he went in for a procedure to repair an abdominal aortic aneurysm and awoke paralyzed from the waist down, forced to live out the remainder of his life as a T-10 complete paraplegic. After serving in the navy—where he was selected as a battle station reactor operator and quality assurance supervisor, earning the Southwest Asia Medal for his service in Desert Shield/Desert Storm and an Admiral’s Commendation for his outstanding service—he underwent successful stints in direct sales, advertising, and logistics. When he was injured, he spent almost a year in the hospital, healing and rehabilitating and wondering what was going to happen with the rest of his life. One day, after he had dropped 115 pounds and was dangerously underweight, his wife pleaded with him to stop wasting his life and get back to being the man that she initially fell in love with. He then began a personal journey back from the depths of depression and restored the vibrant, successful, fulfilling life that existed before the accident.ver menos
