Wanda Evans is the Founder and the Executive Director of Purple Rain: Girls Overcoming Abuse. She has been an educator in the Chicago Public School system for the past 16 years. She earned a B.A. in English Literature from The University of Illinois at Chicago and a M.A. in Urban Education at St. Xavier University at Chicago. She has also taught Spanish for 8 years. As an educator in the Chicago Public School system, she has serviced at-risk youth since 1997 and has a long history of out-reach which started with WINGS (Women In Need Of Graces) and My Man’s and Them (Male Mentoring Circle). In 2003, she began to witness an alarming rise in the number of girls abused in the hallways of her high school; Ms. Evans made a decision to do something to address the problem, which led to the evolution of Purple Rain. Besides teaching, writing, and mentoring, you can find Ms. Evans organizing programs that encourage student enrichment, improved self-esteem, and life management skills. She also functions as the Associate Director of Just Us Fellas (Male Mentoring Group).
She currently resides in Chicago where she is married with three children.
