Her father, a UN employee apprehensive for his safety under the communist regime fled his beloved nation for India in 1985. The Zereh family was eventually granted asylum in the United States in 1987. Since the fall of the Taliban in 2001, Zereh has been a humanitarian working to improve the lives of Afghan orphaned children through education in Afghanistan and locally in Fremont, California, often referred to as the “Little Kabul” of the West.
