Nancy was born and raised on an apple farm in Elkridge, Maryland, just south of Baltimore. Nancy is the oldest of four children who grew up on the farm. The whole family was involved in the apple business. They climbed trees, picked apples, weeded the gardens, cut grass, and swam in the pond.
Nancy and her two sisters and one brother played in the woods, making forts and camps, and played cowboys and Indians with bows and arrows and play pistols. We swam and fished in the pond at our Sunday picnics with cousins and aunts and uncles, with lots of good food and good family.
Nancy loves animals, nature, wildlife, and the outdoors. She trained and rode ponies and horses all of her life, some of which she owned for many years. Nancy’s writings reflect her younger years with animals, horses, farms, wildlife, and the outdoors.
She wrote short stories in high school. Later, she took a college writing course “Writing Stories for Children and Teenagers”. The first non-fiction human-interest story she wrote was published in the September 2001 issue of “Mid-Atlantic Thoroughbred”, a national magazine.
She worked as an administrative secretary at a local county public school system in Howard County for thirty years. After retiring, she enjoys horseback riding, giving riding lessons to children and adults, and writing stories for children.
Nancy got lucky when she found the illustrator for this book, Brittany M. Byers, who is a college student that lives in Nancy’s neighborhood in Westminster, Maryland.ver menos
