Following the divorce of her parents, Mimi and her mother Kitty moved into her grandmother's house; an all-female family of widows and spinsters. When financial hardship forced her to leave school at fifteen, a series of hard earned bursaries and scholarships allowed Mimi to fulfil her scholastic ambitions. She spent seven years nursing at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and finished her formal education in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts at Macquarie University, majoring in French. A one-year trip to Bordeaux led to her opening a French restaurant, and later a French language school.
Mimi's husband Barrie died of prostatic cancer in the year 2000 after an illustrious career as one of Australia's leading ear surgeons. She has two beautiful daughters and five grandchildren, and for the past four years has spent her spare time reflecting on love and life while writing her memoir.ver menos
