BOOK PRESENTATION

Diseases, pests and weeds began to emerge from the beginning of agronomic activities. Ancient civilizations used rudimentary tools like scythes and hoes, in order to control these organisms. Such technique, though efficient, depends on great effort and a lot of manpower. During the Second World War, synthetic agrochemicals were synthesized, such as 2,4-D herbicide and DDT insecticide, with the objective of guaranteeing food production on a larger scale, maintaining food security, controlling the proliferation of diseases transmitted by insects to humans. The development of agrochemicals was of paramount importance for increasing agricultural productivity, leading to lower costs and increased income from agricultural activities.
